Simple, Seasonal - Plant Connection Club
A gentle invitation to notice and connect with the plants around you
Hello, dear plant friend—I’m so glad you’re here! I’m excited to introduce a new project:
🌿 Plant Connection Club—a gentle way to intentionally connect with plants through the seasons.
For the past few years, I’ve found so much joy in noticing the return of familiar plant friends—Amanita mushrooms in mid-fall, the first trilliums of spring, hazelnuts flowering in February, offering the first hints that winter is shifting. These moments ground me in the rhythm of the seasons.
And now, I’d love to invite you into this practice with me.

How it Will Work
Each season, I’ll share prompts, guides, and simple ways to connect with and deepen our relationship with plants and Nature.
To begin - start with noticing the fleeting beauty of spring ephemerals and early bloomers.
Here is your gentle invitation to start by looking for signs of spring ephemerals near you.
🌿 What’s blooming near you?
🌿 Where do you find them? Forest? Meadow? A city sidewalk?
🌿 What other plants are nearby?
No need to get caught up in plant ID - for the moment start simply by noticing. Even just one plant. Return to it, say hello, pause, breathe. See what shifts when you take just a moment to connect.
My Spring Ephemeral Experience
I had a fantastic time at Good Year Farms a week or so ago, being the speaker for their Backyard Habitat Breakfast Club. The focus was spring ephemerals – those fleeting flowers of late winter/early spring. It was so fun (and challenging!) choosing which plants to feature.
The timing was fantastic, just days after the Spring Equinox. As we talked, many people realized these plants were already growing in their own yards, gardens, and nearby trails. It was a beautiful reminder that these seasonal transitions are happening all around us—we just have to take a moment to notice.
Our time together around spring plants encouraged me to get outside. After spending so much time indoors creating, I was craving a wander outside to see what was blooming. Earlier this week, I spotted my first trillium—an ephemeral I had just been chatting about on Sunday and a small gift from the season.
I also came across some early bloomers— not true ephemerals, and still lovely signs of spring’s unfolding. One of the most amazing finds was a patch of spring violets—mostly white-flowered, with a few purple ones still waiting to open. I wouldn’t have found them if I hadn’t followed my intuition and taken a path I don’t usually wander.

Sometimes, noticing plants isn’t just about looking—it’s about feeling pulled in a direction, following a quiet nudge. That’s how I stumbled upon the white violets the other day. I wasn’t planning to take that path, but something told me to go that way—and there they were, like a little gift from the season.
I made a short video about that moment here:
This is a practice that I have slowly grown over the past few years – seasonally noticing plants and their growth – and it has brought me a deeper awareness of seasonal cycles and shifts. It has been both grounding and uplifting, bringing me a lot of joy, which I think we could all use some more of.
An Invitation
Wherever you are, consider pausing when you’re out and about—running errands, heading to an appointment, or stepping outside for a breath of fresh air. (you may be surprised what you find right outside your door with just a moment to pause and connect)
Or maybe there is a place you feel drawn to exploring this time of year. Consider carving out some time to head there and wander. It doesn’t have to be far from home – it can be a park nearby.
Or, if you’d like, choose one plant—a tree, herb, or wild plant that’s beginning to bud or leaf out. Observe it over the next few weeks (this has been one of my favorite low-key ways to observe, connect & reflect).
🌿 What changes do you notice?
🌿 Is it shifting colors or shapes? Retreating already?
🌿 What does new growth look like in your own life right now?
I’d love to hear what you’re noticing! Drop a comment below, share a moment from your wanderings, or jot down your reflections in a journal.
Coming Soon: Curious about who you might be seeing out there? I’ll share a simple way to start identifying some of these early bloomers—beginning with two plant families that love to greet spring – and deepening our connection to the plants we see.
This journey will evolve with the seasons, and I’m so grateful to have you here.
Share your experiences in the comments - I love hearing about what others are seeing!
🌱 Let’s connect—with plants, with Nature, ourselves & with each other.
